IOMFA Men and Womens Squads Ready to go for Gold in Gotland

The Isle of Man FA’s Men & Women squads are all set and ready to #GoforGoldinGotland

The Squads have been in training for the Island Games since September 2016 and are both looking forward to the tournament.

Nick Hurt’s Men won the Silver medal in Jersey two years ago and will look to go one step further this time round. Players from 7 Clubs make up the 20 man squad with a mixture of experienced and new players. The Men start their campaign on Sunday 29th June against Hitra followed by a fixture against the Falkland Islands. The Men finish their group games with what could be the group decider against Ynys Mon on Tuesday 27th June. The top team from each group advance through to the Semi Finals.

Should the Men make it through the Group Stage, they could face 2015 reigning champions Guernsey in the Semi Finals.

The Women missed out on a medal in Jersey two years ago when they finished in fourth place and the Manager, Michael Quilliam, is looking to medal this time round.  5 Clubs make up the 17 Woman squad and again like the Men’s squad, have a mixture of new and experienced players. The Women start their campaign against Ynys Mon on Sunday 29th June, before facing the Western Isles on Monday. After a day’s rest they will face Aland in the final group game on Wednesday 28th June. The top team from each of the 3 groups will advance through to the Semi-Finals with the best runner-up taking the 4th spot.
