IOMFA Disability Team To Play in Iceland in September

The Isle of Man Football Association Disability Football team are delighted to confirm they have accepted an invitation to take part in a 5 a side tournament in Reykjavik, Iceland on the 16th September 2017.

The Football Federation of Iceland, Special Olympics Iceland and the Ösp sports club will be hosting this event together.

IOMFA Chief Executive Officer Frank Stennett commented “ This is a really exciting opportunity for both our players and coaching staff to visit a country that has emerged in recent times to be a major force in international football. With a population of 312,000, it is amazing to see the number of indoor 3G pitches that have been built right across the country and the considerable positive impact this has had on their domestic and international teams.

The tournament itself will involve 6 teams from across Iceland, 2 from the Faroe Islands, a Liverpool County FA representative team, Warrington Wolves, our old friends from Gibraltar and of course our own team from the Isle of Man.

Our considerable thanks goes to both Adrian Higgins Specsavers Isle of Man and Steve Hadfield formerly of Paddy Power Online for the kind support that has made this trip possible.

This will be a real progression for our players and regular training sessions will start soon to ensure we are as best prepared as possible for the tournament”.
