COE U12s Enjoy Blackpool Cup

The Isle of Man FA Centre of Excellence U12’s travelled to Blackpool over Easter to participate in The Blackpool Cup.

The squad travelled to the Blackpool Cup over the Easter weekend, to try to defend the title they won last year managed by lead coach Paul Lake and co-coach Chris Higgins. Two teams were entered into the tournament which was held at the excellent Myerscough College, just outside Preston.

On the first day of competition both teams won through their respective groups. Both teams won all three games whilst playing some great football.  Having won their groups both teams went on the semis the following day. Both teams again playing some terrific football and both games finished 1-1 with both IOM teams losing narrowly on penalties. Both teams had plenty of the ball but just wasn't to be there day. A shame as an all Isle of Man final would have been interesting but all the boys showed superb commitment, style and great work ethic.

Coach Paul Lake commented, "Overall, I feel the trip was a success. The whole squad performed very well and we’re both very proud of them. Their behaviour on and off the pitch was excellent. Their attitude to their coaching sessions this season has been first class. It goes to show what can be achieved with hard work and a great attitude.

I would like to thank all the parents who travelled to support the team. Also, I would like to thank Nigel Shimmin and Brian Gartland, who travelled with us to help with the organisation whist we were there, a real team effort."
