Men and Women Go For Gold in Gotland

Both the Isle of Man Men and Women’s football teams have reached the finals of the NatWest Island Games.

The Men’s team defeated Guernsey 4-3 with a last gasp winner, Calum Morrissey netting the decisive goal on 92 minutes. The Channel Islanders had taken a first half lead, however, Daniel Bell levelled matters on 45 minutes, Ciaran McNulty put the Manx in front a minute later. With the first half on the 48th minutes, Guernsey scored to make it 2-2 on the stroke of the half-time whistle.

After the interval Daniel Simpson put the Manx in front again, Guernsey bagged five minutes later to make it 3-3 before the St George’s front man scored the all-important winner.

The women’s team defeated the Isle of Wight 4-2 despite going down to an early lead, Sarah Wignall equalised on the stroke of half-time. Eleanor Gawne put in the Manx in front for the first time, Alex Honour netted a brace to put the Manx firmly in control, the Solent side pulled a goal back in the closing stages.

The Men’s team will play Greenland 1pm KO (12pm BST) whilst the Women will play the hosts Gotland 10.30am (9:30am BST). Both matches will be played at Gutavallen.
