Men Win Gold in Gotland

The Isle of Man Men's Team won Island Games Gold by beating Greenland 6-0 in the final.

Nich Hurt's side took the lead through Dan Simpson in the 24 minute and never looked back. The Corinthians winger tapped in from 5 yards after flick-ons from Calum Morrissey and Ciaran McNulty. Ten minutes later Simpson made it two, McNulty picked out Simpson to volley and make it 2-0 and that is how it stayed till half time.

Twelve minutes into the second Skipper Frank Jones scored a third for the Manx side. After a corner was cleared by Greenland, McVey chipped the ball back into the area which was headed on by Sean Doyle to Jones who volleyed past the 'keeper. Doyle was the provider of the fourth on 77 minutes, his cross picking out McNulty who took it past a defender and tucked it into the bottom corner. The fifth and sixth goals soon followed on 83 & 85 minutes and it was the provider turned scorer who grabbed them both.  Jones played the ball out wide to McNulty who centred for Doyle to finish past the 'keeper. The sixth goal was set up by a brilliant through ball by Daniel Bell and Doyle passed it into the net to cap off a fine performance by Hurt's side.

It's the first Gold won in Island Games for the Men, a fantastic achievement.

Isle of Man XI vs Greenland: Petkov (Holliday 80m), Riding, McVey, Clark, Cowin, Simpson (Woods 65m), Jones, Bell, Holden, Morrissey (Doyle 46m), McNulty.

Congratulations to the Men's Squad, the management and coaching team, physio team & officials on a terrific Gold Medal.

An excellent achievement!
