Lancaster City Win Pre-Season Friendly

The Isle of Man Senior Men’s Team were beaten 7-3 in a thrilling pre-season friendly against Lancaster City at the Giant Axe Stadium on Saturday.

The Lancashire team warmed up for their Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign inviting the Manx side over as part of their pre-season plans ready for the kick off of the season in a couple of weeks.

The Dolly Blues went into half time 5-0 up with goals by Billy Akrigg x2, Charlie Bailey, Ryan Winder and Oliver Wood. Nick Hurt’s side fought back in the second half and made it 5-3. Johnny Myers scored a bullet header from a Chris Bass Jnr corner and Brody Patience followed suit minutes later to score on his IOM Senior Men’s debut. Alex Holden also scored his first Manx goal when he got on the end of a Daniel Bell throughball and rolled it into an empty net. Lancaster City finished the match with Bailey grabbing a couple of late goals to complete his hat trick.

Overall an entertaining afternoon for the fans at the Giant Axe seeing 10 goals and both sides would have taken a lot out of the game with Nick Hurt preparing for the 2017/18 FA Inter-league Cup campaign and the Umbro Cup Quadrangular tournament in October.
