FINAL - The Bananas v Gymns

Last night saw the IOMFA Women’s Small Sided Summer Football League come to an end with a final between League Winners Gymns, and League Runner’s Up The Bananas. We were fortunate enough that the weather had improved dramatically compared to the wet and windy weather the teams had experienced in the semi-finals.

The first half was dominated by Gymns, who were 1-0 up at half time, with the second half a much more evenly played match with The Bananas equalling 1-1 with still 10 minutes to go. The 2 teams battled it out until the final whistle blew, final score 1-1.

This meant the dreaded penalties had arrived, with each team allowed 3 penalties Gymns stepped up first. They scored their first with The Bananas levelling. Gymns then missed their second, with The Bananas scoring theirs, 1-2. Gymns comfortably scored their 3rd penalty which meant The Bananas had to score their 3rd and final penalty to win. Bekki Cole stepped up and blasted the ball into the goal, The Bananas winning 3-2 on penalties.

All teams entered in the Summer League had all taken part in regular matches over the past 7 weeks which turned out to be the closest Women’s Summer League yet.
