Futsal Arrives

The Isle of Man's first ever Futsal league is on the horizon...

The IOMFA are delivering the first ever futsal league on the island due to start this June.

The game, a high tempo, more skillful version of traditional 5-a-side makes use of bigger goals, touchlines and a smaller ball with less bounce to create an exciting climate for indoor football.

Futsal originated in South America and is played widely across South and Eastern Europe.  The FA and FIFA endorse the game due to is highly technical and skill developmental outcomes.

The league is set to start on Friday 26th June and run every Tuesday and Friday until 30th October 2009 at Ballakermeen High School Sports Hall.  Games will be played in one hour slots between 6 - 9pm on these days.  The league is for open age male teams from local businesses, clubs or social groups.  Minimum age: 16 years.

There will be three 'Taster Sessions' available to attend in order for teams thinking about entering to have a go and teams entering the league to get used to the laws of the game.  The taster sessions will run on hourly slots on the following dates;

Wednesday 27th May6 - 10pm @ QE2 High School
Wednesday 3rd June 6 - 10pm @ QE2 High School
Wednesday 17th June 6 - 10pm @ QE2 High School

Taster sessions will cost £20/team which can be made payable on the evening.  We strongly urge teams who are entering the league to attend one of the taster sessions in order to get used to the laws of the game.

FAQ

Q - Will our team be playing every Tuesday and Friday?
A - No. When you register your team you will be asked for a preference of slots 1 - 6. These preferences will hold a bias on your fixtures. Teams will only play once per week and most likely each team will play every other week if enough teams enter the league.

Q - I'm putting a works team in, can anyone play for us?
A - Yes. There is no restrictions on who plays for your team as long as they are all at least 16 years of age.

Q - I'm putting a team in from my football club, can anyone registered for the club play in the league?
A - Yes, as long as they are registered to your club for the 2009/10 season.

Q - I'm not registered to a club and my work don't want to enter a team.  Can I still play?
A - Yes.  All you need to do is get a group of mates together and register at the link above.

Q - Is there any limit to the amount of players I can register?
A - No.  You can register as many players as you like however on match nights you can only play with a squad of 12.

Q - Will it be head height?
A - No.  The ceiling is the limit!

Q - Will there be referees?
A - Yes.  We are holding a Futsal Referees Course before the league begins.
